Board of County Commissioners Highlights - April 3, 2018

TONOPAH, Nev., April 3, 2018 - The following report highlights several important actions taken at the Nye County Board of Commissioners meeting. The agenda numbers provide links to each item’s backup.

BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TODAY PROCLAIMED APRIL AS NATIONAL COUNTY GOVERNMENT MONTH. The county will use the month to highlight county programs and raise public awareness of the services we provide to the communities. (31)

AN OUTDOOR FESTIVAL LICENSE was approved by board to Live A Little Productions, Inc., for the Monster Truck Insanity Tour. The event is scheduled to be held April 21, 2018 at Petrack Park Arena in Pahrump. (9)

COMMISSIONERS UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE RETIREMENT AND TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP of K-9 Bendix to Nye County Sheriff's Deputy John Teeter. The 7-year-old German shepherd is being retired due to health issues. (25)

THE BOARD APPROVED AN AMENDMENT to the inter-local Agreement with Clark County for the Ryan White Grant for Medical, Core and Support Services for HIV/AIDS Infected and Affected Clients in the Las Vegas, Ryan White, Transitional Grant Area. The Amendment is to renew and extend the agreement for a one-year period from March 1, 2018 to February 28, 2019. This grant has been administered by the county for 11 years. There is no county match required. (35)

A WAIVER APPLICATION AND A SPECIAL USE PERMIT was issued to Acres Cultivation in Amargosa Valley to expand an existing marijuana cultivation facility by 228,000 square feet for a new outdoor cultivation area on Anvil Road. (10

A PAIR OF APPLICANTS WERE SAW THEIR MEDICAL MARIJUANA ESTABLISHMENT ANNUAL LICENSES RENEWED and prorated to June 30, 2019. One for a production facility located on Oxbow Avenue in Pahrump, and the second for a cultivation facility on Oakridge Avenue in Pahrump. (36, 37, 38, 39)

COMMISSIONER DONNA COX was appointed board liaison to the county's INDIGENT DEFENSE PROGRAM. The program oversees the public defender program and provides public representation of defendants who cannot afford lawyers. (23)

TUESDAY, MAY 15, 2018, AT 11 A.M., was the date and time set for a PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL to amend Nye County Code regarding the zoning ordinance of the Pahrump Regional Planning District, by removing the 40-acre minimum area requirement of the Suburban Estates Residential zoning district. (40)

TUESDAY, MAY 15, 2018, AT 11 A.M., was the date and time set for a PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL to amend Nye County Code regarding building separation, relating to the requirement to have a minimum of ten feet of separation between all buildings on a single parcel in a residential zoning district. TUESDAY, MAY 22, 2018 was the date set for a PUBLIC HEARINGS ON THE FISCAL YEAR 2018-19 TENTATIVE BUDGETS for Nye County, Town of Pahrump, Town of Beatty, Town of Gabbs, Town of Manhattan and the Pahrump Pool District.

The Board had the initial discussion on possible BILL DRAFT REQUESTS the county would want to submit for the 2019 State Legislative Session. The board directed staff to have a standing item monthly to discuss the potential BDRs. The due date is September 1, 2018, (30)

A PERMANENT RETAIL LIQUOR LICENSE was issued by the board sitting as the County Licensing and Liquor Board to O'Happy Bread on East Basin Road in Pahrump. (14)

The next meeting of the Board of County Commissioners is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at 10 a.m. in Pahrump.
