Governor Steve Sisolak on Tuesday announced that he has appointed County Commissioner Lorinda Wichman and former Commissioner Joni Eastley to the new 10-member Board on Indigent Defense Services (BIDS).

“I am excited to announce that I’ve made ten appointments to the new Board of Indigent Defense Services, which will provide needed oversight of legal defense for those who cannot afford lawyers,” Governor Sisolak said. “Indigent defense has gotten short shrift in Nevada for far too long, and I am thrilled to see that we will finally be adopting consistent standards and regulations to protect defendants’ constitutional right to receive fair and competent legal representation.”

"I am proud to receive an appointment to the BIDS and look forward to serving on behalf of NACO," said Wichman, who was nominated for the board by the Nevada Association of Counties. "The focus of this board is essential and long overdue."

Eastley, also a former assistant county manager, currently serves as a commissioner on the board of the Nevada Rural Housing Authority.
